Circle Trivet or Wall Plaque
You can use this pattern as a trivet or hang it as a wall plaque, by itself or with the teardrop and star designs. Made with black yarn, it has the look of wrought iron.
Materials for set of all three designs: LILY DOUBLE QUICK, Art. 50, in Black: 2 skeins; No. 3 Steel Crochet Hook, 10 plastic rings, 1 inch size.
Size: 6 x 8–3/4 inches
CENTER: Ch 2, 8 sc in 2d ch from hook, join sl st to back lp of 1st sc.
RND 2: Ch 5, tr in same st, * ch 4, holding back the last lp of each tr on hook make 2 tr in back lp of next; sc, Y 0 and draw thru all 3 lps on hook at the same time; repeat from * 6 times, ch 4, join to 1st tr. Fasten off. Make a 2d piece but do not cut. Lay 2d piece on top of 1st and working over both pieces, make sc in each sp around; join and fasten off. * Attach to one plastic ring, ch 1, 32 sc in ring, join, cut and sew by 2 sc between 2 sps on Center. Repeat from * around. Sew 8 Rings tog. where they touch.
BORDER: Attach to 7th free sc on one Ring, sc in next 6 sc, (ch 8, sc in center 6 sc on next Ring) repeated, around; join to 1st sc.
RND 2: Ch 1, sc at base of same sc, sc at base of next, 5 sc, (10 sc in next sp, sc at base of next 6 sc) repeated around; join.
RND 3: Repeat Rnd 2 working over the sc in that rnd; join to back lp of 1st sc.
HANDLE: Ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in back lp of next 5 sc, turn, sc in remaining lp of same 6 sc.
RNDS 2 & 3. Working in back lps only, sc in 12 sc around and around for 2 rnds.
RND 4: * Inc. 2 sc evenly (to inc, make 2 sc in 1 sc).
RNDS 5 thru 7: 1 sc in each sc around for 3 rnds. Repeat from * twice (thru Rnd 15). Ending on right side, sl st in next sc, slip a ring in end of Handle, 28 sc in ring, sl st in other side of Handle. Fasten off. Sew 2 halves of end of Handle tog. over bottom of ring.
EDGE: Attach to 1st sc to left of Handle, * ch 5, sl st in 2d ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, holding back the last lp of each dc on hook, make 2 dc in next ch, Y 0 and draw thru all 3 lps on hook at the same time, sk 3 sc, sl st in next sc. Repeat from * around to other side of Handle. Fasten off. Starch, pin right-side-up in true shape, press flat through a cloth and leave until dry.
