Star Trivet or Wall Plaque

You can use this pattern as a trivet or hang it as a wall plaque, by itself or with the circle and teardrop designs. Made with black yarn, it has the look of wrought iron.

Materials for set of all three designs: LILY DOUBLE QUICK, Art. 50, in Black: 2 skeins; No. 3 Steel Crochet Hook, 10 plastic rings, 1 inch size.

Size: 6 x 8–3/4 inches

CENTER: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2d ch from hook, join with sl st in back lp of 1st sc.

RND 2: * Ch 2, 3 sc in 2d ch from hook, cup 3 sc with right side inside and working in back lp only, sc in 1st sc, sc in each sc around and around for 2 1/4 inches, having 3 sc in rnd at all times (crocheted rope); sk 1 sc, sl st in next sc, sl st in same sc on center, sl st in next sc; repeat from * 5 times. Fasten off.

RND 3: Attach to center of one rope lp, * make rope for 2 1/4 inches, sk .1 sc, sl st in next sc, sc in center of next lp; repeat from * 5 times. Fasten off.

RND 4: Repeat Rnd 3 making ropes 3 inches long.

RING: Ch 14, join with sl st to form ring.

RND 1: Ch 1, 23 sc in ring, join.

RND 2: Ch 1, 25 sc in ring, inserting hook in center opening; join and fasten off. Make 7. Sew a Ring to sc between every 2 lps in Rnd 3. Sew lps in Rnd 4 to 7 sc around Rings.

HANDLE: Make rope for 9 inches. Sew tog. 1 3/4 inches from ends. Spread ends and sew to 2 lps in Rnd 4 one half inch from Handle ends. Sew 7th Ring inside top lp of Handle. Starch, pin right-side-up in true shape, press flat through a cloth and leave until dry.
